In rushing water or with waves at sea, it's very difficult to draw attention to yourself without a whistle. The NRS Fox40 signal whistle solves this problem.

The 3-chamber construction has no moving parts, so nothing can freeze or break. It's very easy to blow — the tone doesn't crack, and the harder you blow, the louder it gets. The maximum audible range is approximately 1.5 km. The chambers are designed to be self-cleaning in case the whistle fills with water.

The whistle should not be attached to the zips of your life jacket. Most standard PFDs have small loops or D-rings where you can attach the whistle.

Having a whistle is just as essential for paddlers as a throw bag.
