Boofing, undercutting, kickflips, surfing — and still paddling class IV–V. The new DragoRossi Kush makes it all possible. We tested the boat and here's what we found.
Boofing
We can't put it any other way: the Kush boofs incredibly well. In the landing, it doesn't skip up as vertically as, for example, the Waka Steeze does, but rather glides forward over the hole. After the boof, it loses a little speed. So you should plan for one or two extra paddle strokes to bring the boat back up to speed. It accelerates well — two or three strokes is all it takes to glide quickly through waves and holes again.
Stern
You do notice the flat stern on class IV–V from time to time. But it's absolutely no problem taking the boat into this range. Among comparable river runners, the Kush is relatively easy to undercut and good to stabilise on the stern. The bow rises nicely from the water and the stern can be spun well.
Direction Changes and Edges
Compared to other river runners, the Kush is somewhat shorter at 269 cm. You notice this especially during kickflips and when boofing onto waves — the boat generates really impressive airtime. The hull is also pretty cool: the bow area is quite round, while the stern has pronounced edges. This is great because the front doesn't get eaten as easily. You can set the round bow beautifully on cross-currents and then press in the rear edge. Thanks to the edges and hull design, the Kush gains significant manoeuvrability. It steers with extreme precision and practically invites you to try completely new lines on your home run. The surfing behaviour on waves is excellent — even lighter paddlers will find the boat responds very well to weight shifts. All in all, it's an amazing boat for downriver freestyle — both in big water and on technical creeks where you need to navigate tight spots precisely.
