With the Nitro, Lettmann is fulfilling a wish of the paddling community: namely, for a paddle in the usual Lettmann quality with forward-positioned blades but a straight shaft. Not all paddlers like paddling with an ergonomic shaft.
The Lettmann Nitro WW LCS 70 Extreme is by far the most robust foam-core whitewater paddle on the market. The blades of this paddle are made of a carbon-Kevlar blend and feature an additional aramid edge. This aramid edge prevents excessive abrasion and protects the paddle from damage.
The theory behind the forward stroke is as follows: The pressure point moves forward of the pull point (the hand). This allows the paddle to move through the water with less flutter and less power loss. The positive stroke length is also increased. On the Nitro, the paddle blade is positioned approximately 5-7 cm forward. This results in a greater forward pull. The power build-up is better and more consistent. The pressure point moves forward, and the typical flutter of a straight paddle is reduced to a minimum. We've tested it and can fully confirm this.
The paddle operates on the principle of "hydrodynamic lift." This provides additional stability to the blade in the water. Furthermore, it ensures a particularly even and efficient pressure build-up with a reduced blade area. The hydrodynamic lift is achieved through the highly profiled blade in combination with the forward shift of the pressure point.
The Nitro is the perfect paddle for anyone who doesn't get along with an
ergonomic shaft but still wants to enjoy the power transfer it provides. We definitely recommend it!
Paddle splitting: yes or no?
Paddles are available with or without a two-piece design. We strongly recommend the two-piece paddle. First, it's much more compact for transport. Second, it's incredibly practical to be able to adjust the paddle length to your current needs. Perhaps you only need a 197 cm length at the beginning of the season. And when you're really in training, you can simply extend it by 3 cm. We are huge fans of two-piece paddles and would recommend them without reservation.
