Hiko NEO 2.5 Neoprene Pants

The Hiko NEO 2.5 neoprene pants are made from 2.5 mm thick neoprene, providing plenty of warmth. The neoprene is laminated on both sides with flexible knit fabric, meaning the pants are comfortable to wear and don't restrict freedom of movement.

A few details make these pants the perfect companion in a kayak. Firstly, the back rises high, so the lower back and kidneys are perfectly protected even when seated. For extra durability, the neoprene at the seat and knees is reinforced with abrasion-resistant material. Thin foam pads are also integrated at the knees, making the pants perfect for paddlers who kneel in their boat. Thirdly, the leg cuffs are rubberised, which means they seal better and cold water can't penetrate as easily.

We think the combination of long neoprene pants and a dry jacket (such as the Hiko Paladin or the Hiko Nimue) is a perfect and relatively affordable solution for kayak beginners. We'd even prefer it over the long john/paddle jacket combination. The reason is that under a dry jacket you can wear much more comfortable clothing than a long john could ever be. You have better freedom of movement and still stay relatively dry for a long time even if you swim. Depending on the temperature, you can adjust the base layer accordingly.
