With the Nitro, Lettmann fulfils a wish from the paddling community: a paddle in proven Lettmann quality with forward-offset blades but a straight shaft. Not all paddlers enjoy paddling with an ergo shaft.
The Lettmann Nitro WW LCS 70 Extrem is by far the most robust foam-core whitewater paddle on the market. The blades are made from a carbon-Kevlar composite and feature an additional aramid edge. The aramid edge prevents excessive wear and protects the paddle from damage.
The theory behind the forward offset goes like this: the pressure point moves in front of the pull point (your hand). This allows the paddle to move through the water with less flutter and loss. The positive pull phase also becomes longer. On the Nitro, the blade is offset approximately 5–7 cm forward. This gives you a greater forward pull, better and more even pressure build-up, the pressure point shifts forward, and the typical flutter of a straight paddle is reduced to a minimum. We've tried it and can completely confirm this.
The paddle works on the principle of "hydrodynamic lift". This additionally stabilises the blade in the water and, with a reduced blade area, provides a particularly even and efficient pressure build-up. The hydrodynamic lift is achieved through the heavily profiled blade combined with the forward-offset pressure point.
The Nitro is the perfect paddle for anyone who can't warm to an ergo shaft but still wants to enjoy the pressure build-up of one. We give it a clear recommendation!
