For a long, long time we were searching for a knife we could recommend to our customers and the whitewater community with a clear conscience. In numerous conversations with our kayak guides, Rescue 3 instructors and experts in the community, the CRKT Bear Claw kept coming up. We had to convince ourselves and contacted Columbia River Knife & Tool® (CRKT®) directly.
And here we are..! About half a year later, the Bear Claw has found its way into our shop. The knife features a fixed, serrated blade with a blunt tip, a finger hole for a secure grip (even when wet) and a sheath with multiple attachment options.
The hawkbill blade is made from corrosion-resistant steel, and the serration makes it particularly effective at cutting through ropes and webbing. The blunt tip prevents accidental punctures, making the knife especially safe for use near inflatable boats or on the water. When it counts, you can find the knife quickly thanks to its eye-catching, colourful grip.
As CRKT puts it themselves:
River knife. Rescue knife. Whatever you call it, it gets the job done.
We'd like to point out that the topic of the right river knife is very personal and depends strongly on individual preference. While some wear their knife on the outside of their PFD, others prefer to keep it safely in the front pocket. Opinions also differ on the choice between a folding knife and a fixed blade. So do your research and find the solution that works best for you. Please also note that knives always carry an increased risk of injury. For more info, reach us at info@s2s.at.
